FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Department of Water Resources Officials say work has been going well at the Orville Dam and the spillway is stable.
They say with storms still coming in the the area, they are prepared.
DWR Director Bill Kroyle during a noon-time update on Monday, February 20th told the media that ground crews are shoring up weak areas.
They’ve removed some of water stored behind the dam, and only anticipate only a 5 foot increase in water surface.
Butte County Sheriff Korey Honea says even though the risk has dropped residents need to stay alert, and warned that there are rumors going around so people need to be careful to pay attention where they get their news.
“We are currently under an evacuation warning – which tells people they need to be prepared at a moment’s notice – the threat is much better today than we were last week.” – Butte County Sheriff Korey Honea.
Kroyler says the DWR is working on plans for the future and ways to warn the public much earlier with a smoother process, using the media and social media platforms.
