The U.S. Forest Service and several fire agencies honored a U.S. Forest Service firefighter killed by a tree while battling a California blaze.
Thursday, firefighters escorted the body of 21-year-old Michael Hallenbeck from South Lake Tahoe to his final resting place in Placerville.
The Shingle Springs man was hit by a tree Saturday during the initial attack on a fire that broke out south of the Echo Summit mountain pass.
The Forest Service says the procession started in South Lake Tahoe and followed Highway 50 up Echo Summit through Sierra at Tahoe Resort. Hundreds lined the route to pay their respects.
A private Funeral services for Hallenbeck will be held on Saturday.
