FRESNO (KMJ) — The FBI are asking for our help identifying the victims of convicted online predator who targeted minors across 26 states including California.
Florida man Lucas Chansler has been sentenced to 105 years in prison for his efforts producing child pornography in an act known as sextortion. But there are fears there are more victims yet to make themselves known.
“By having the courage to come forward you’re going to likely prevent other people from being victimized”, says FBI Deputy Assistant Director Chris Warner.
“Oftentimes what we’re going to find is that it’s not just one victim, it’s multiple victims, sometimes it’s hundreds of victims”.
The FBI are currently aware of 350 people who were targeted. The victims from from across the world including the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Four of them were from California.
Using information received from the parents of one victim and working with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), Chansler was identified and located.
“I’m proud of the young girl and her parents for taking a stand against sexual exploitation by submitting the information to NCMEC’s CyberTipline,” said Linda Krieg, NCMEC’s acting CEO.
“That one CyberTipline report, through the FBI’s investigation, turned out to be the tip of the iceberg involving a sophisticated child predator who allegedly victimized hundreds of children.”
Federal investigators are now asking anyone who may help identify Chansler’s other victims or who may be a victim themselves to contact them.
They’ve set up an online confidential questionnaire for his victims to come forward. A link to that can be found here.
