~Storyland/Playland Amusement Park is reaching out for help, and crafting a strategy to save the park.
The board has been brainstorming – even approaching the Fresno Chaffee Zoo to take over.
They have come up with an immediate $500,000 figure to refurbish the site which would include 3 to 4 months operating expense.
Board Member Mike Andritch "We think we could open that thing with the train – this is Storyland, a new improved Storyland with a refurbished train – for about a half a mil."
This amount would cover irrigation and landscape improvements, the replacement of tree damaged sidewalks (trip hazards), bathroom upgrades, train upgrades and track repairs.
Andritch was asked why it got so in debt.
He said other board members tried to patch it, even put in their own money, but with the recession, lower attendance and the needed repairs- the debt gathered too much steam.
If they can raise the money, storyland to reopen later this year.
Playland would remain closed for at least a year or until funds are raised for a total refresh, then the goal would be to reopen a new and improved playland, with an enhanced guest experience, by summer 2016.
