Fresno County’s Board of Supervisors voted to renew the County’s already approved 2015 local emergency status.
Supervisors Henry Perea and Brian Pacheco are requesting Governor Jerry Brown take more stringent actions to make all state assistance available to Fresno County.
“What this resolution does – and other Valley counties are waiting for us to pass this – is to be very specific with Governor Brown in terms of what we are going to be asking him to do that is within his power do, so that’s what this resolution contains.” – Supervisor Henry Perea.
A Fresno delegation met with federal lawmakers last month in D.C. to discuss the issue.
Supervisors Perea and Pacheco are requesting immediate action from the governor to make water available to people, growers and businesses.
Mario Santoyo from the Latino Water Coalition, spoke to the Board of Supervisors at Tuesday’s meeting.
“Even in 1976 and ’77 there was still 25% water supply that made it to the Westside and the Eastside, so what that means is that even though Mother Nature has not been good to us it’s basically the changes in federal regulations that’s cut off the water availability as a whole.” -Mario Santoyo, Latino Water Coalition.
Fresno County Ordinance requires the board to renew its local emergency status at least once every 21 days until conditions warranting the emergency have ended.
