FRESNO, CA (KMJ) It’s being called the “Friday Night Massacre”.
At 5PM Friday, Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas (D-Salinas) announced the removal of a number of Assembly Republicans from key positions on legislative committees.
Among those ousted: David Tangipa (R-Clovis) and Alexandra Macedo (R-Tulare).
“First tomatoes…. Now this?” Macedo said in a statement on X: “I must be doing something right. Sounds like somebody is scared of the new girl on the block asking a few questions,” referring to protesters throwing tomatoes at her during a recent news conference criticizing the High Speed Rail Project.
Tangipa, who was removed as vice chairman of the Assembly’s Insurance Committee and from the Utilities and Energy Committee joined Broeske & Musson on Monday to discuss the fallout:

Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher issued a statement: “Before they’ve taken action on a single bill to lower the cost of living, Assembly Democrats retaliated against Republican lawmakers for highlighting their failures on the cost of living, insurance, wildfire and energy. Let me be clear. We will not be intimidated by petty politics. Republicans are focused and ready to fix the problems caused by decades of failed Democrat leadership.”
