KINGS COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) — One person is dead and another is in the hospital following a crash in Kings County Thursday morning.
It happened in the area of Highway 43 and Cairo Ave. just after 6:30 am.
The California Highway Patrol says the driver of a sedan was at the intersection when they pulled out directly in front of a pickup truck going south on the highway.
It caused the truck to hit the left side of the sedan.
The driver of the sedan died from his injuries. Officers say he was an elderly man.
A passenger in the sedan was taken to the hospital with major injuries.
The truck driver stayed on scene and is cooperating with authorities.
Officers say the early-morning fog could have played a role in the crash, but that the truck was not speeding.
The man killed has not been identified.
