The California Farm Bureau says a program launched two years ago continues to teach farmworkers new skills.
The Agricultural Technology and Education Collaborative, or AgTEC, program is offered at a half dozen Central Valley colleges.
Hundreds of students have enrolled in the program which offers needed courses to teach the needed skills to keep up with agriculture’s evolving technologies.
Farm Bureau points out while it’s open to students of all backgrounds, farmworkers will benefit the most.
Karen Aceves, AgTEC’s regional director, says the program can help fill a need in the changing world of agriculture while retaining workers already in the industry. “We don’t know where our industry is going,” Aceves said. “We need someone who’s adaptable and can adapt to those changes.”
