FRESNO, CA (KMJ) At a Monday press conference, Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto announced that a 16-year-old Fowler boy has been arrested in connection with a double shooting that occurred outside of a nightclub early Sunday morning in the Tower District.
The minor, who is not being identified, is likely to face at least two counts of attempted murder.
The shooting happened outside the MIA nightclub on Olive Avenue. The shooting victims are expected to survive.
Video shows a fight between two groups when one man pulled out a gun and fired.
Chief Casto says the suspect does have “gang connections”, does not have a criminal record.
Mayor Jerry Dyer said there are no current plans to shut down the roads in the Tower despite the recent spike in shootings.
Fresno City Councilmember Annalisa Perea issued a statement: “Our community deserves to enjoy a night out, support local businesses, walk down Olive Avenue, and spend time with friends and family without worrying about being caught in the middle of a shooting. No one should have to fear for their life simply because they were standing in line outside a nightclub or walking down the street. Public safety is not negotiable, and we are going to treat it that way.”
A Tower District Community Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 21 at 5:30 PM at the Tower Theater (815 E. Olive Ave., Fresno).
