FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A woman accused of fatally shooting a 26-year-old woman outside a Central Fresno house party has been ordered to stand trial after new video evidence and witness testimony were presented in court Thursday.
Nemadia Knuckles is charged with the murder of 26-year-old Marione Tsegay. Prosecutors presented video captured by a Tesla that they said shows the moment Knuckles pulled out a handgun and shot Tsegay. The footage also allegedly shows Knuckles aiming at another woman before leaving the scene.
During the hearing, several witnesses testified about what they saw that night.
The first three witnesses said they heard a gunshot before seeing Tsegay fall to the ground, but none identified Knuckles as the shooter.
One witness, Patia, testified that after the shot was fired, “I’ve just seen Marion falling.”
Another witness, Jayden, was asked whether he saw Knuckles when he heard the gunshot and saw Tsegay fall.
“No,” Jayden responded.
The final witness, Kobi Magee, provided testimony about the events leading up to the shooting. Magee said she knew Knuckles because they had previously dated the same man. She testified that no one at the party had previous issues with Knuckles and that Knuckles arrived uninvited.
When asked about any animosity between the two women, Magee testified:
“Not from my end.”
Magee also described Knuckles’ behavior as hostile and said she made sarcastic remarks toward her. Witnesses testified that Tsegay approached Knuckles and asked, “do you want to fight?”
Magee testified that the two women stood face-to-face for several seconds before Knuckles began backing away.
“They were kind of standing face to face to each other for a couple seconds, and then she began to back up,” Magee said.
Asked what Knuckles was doing as she backed away, Magee responded: “Reaching for a gun.”
After the shooting, Magee and others placed Tsegay into the Tesla and drove her to a hospital, where she later died from her injury.
Knuckles remains in custody at the Fresno County Jail and is scheduled to return to court Oct. 30. She is also charged with a gun enhancement that, if convicted, could add 25 years to life to her sentence.
