“Brian was a true public servant, just an amazing officer, and he’s going to be greatly missed,” CHP Chief Damon Gilmore said. “I can tell you, he is the 36th officer that has laid down his life here in Central Division, and the 233rd officer for the California Highway Patrol since our inception in 1929.”
Liles began his career with the CHP in the Bay Area after graduating from the CHP Academy and being assigned to the agency’s San Jose office in 2010. Before serving in the South Valley, he worked in the communities of Hayward and Fresno before transferring to Visalia in 2019.
In March 2025, Liles was honored as CHP Officer of the Year for the Visalia area. His work on and off the road continued to earn recognition in the months that followed.

In October 2025, Central Division highlighted Liles during Employee Appreciation Day. Two months later, he became one of the first motorcycle officers assigned to cover Visalia after completing the department’s motorcycle training at the academy, described by the agency as a rigorous 10-day, 84-hour program. The training also included an additional 240 hours alongside a Certified Motor Training Officer.
Liles leaves behind a wife, two children, parents and siblings, as well as a community grieving his loss.
