FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Christopher Turner has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting of his neighbor in central Fresno.
The verdict was handed down in a courtroom Friday morning.
The shooting happened near Orchard and Yale avenues back in August of 2022.
Turner shot and killed 73-year-old Robert Torres after some sort of argument. He was arrested two days later at his apartment.
During the trial, jurors heard details about the search of Turner’s apartment following his arrest.
Investigators testified they located a gun holster and an expired firearm safety certificate inside the apartment.
However, a Fresno Police sergeant said no gun was actually found inside.
Forensic pathologist Dr. Angelee Chen said during testimony that there appeared to be a bullet in Torres’ head when looking at x-rays.
Prosecutors used the footage to establish a timeline they say shows Turner following Torres before the shooting and then walking away from the scene afterward.
Minutes later, according to testimony, bystanders discovered Torres lying in the roadway and notified police.
