FRESNO, CA (KMJ) A Fresno teenager who nearly died in a snowboarding accident is thanking the first responders and medical crews who helped save his life.
15-year-old Braxon Silva reunited this week with members of the SkyLife air medical team, China Peak Ski Patrol, and American Ambulance.
Silva suffered a severe brain injury while snowboarding at China Peak in February. After being found injured on the mountain, he was treated by ski patrol, transported by ambulance, and flown by SkyLife to CRMC.
During the flight, medical crews treated seizures and provided critical lifesaving care. Silva spent 10 days in a coma and nearly two months in the hospital before making what doctors call an extraordinary recovery.
“It means a lot to see the people who literally had my life in their hands,” said Silva. “It is crazy to think I almost died and I’m doing so well now. I almost don’t believe it. It means so much to meet the people who got me to the hospital, and I just love them so much.”
Medical crews say seeing patients recover is a rare and rewarding part of the job.
