LINDSAY, Calif. (KFSN) — A man has died after smoking meth and passing out as he was being detained by police at a Lindsay convenience store Tuesday night.
Authorities say that just before 10:30 p.m., Lindsay police officers responded to a Fastrip convenience store off Hermosa Street and Sweetbriar Avenue for a man disturbing multiple people in the area.
An officer found a man, identified as a 33-year-old from Porterville, acting erratically and armed with a knife.
As officers tried to detain the man, he resisted and a fight broke out. He was eventually put into handcuffs.
Fire and emergency medical services were called to evaluate the man, but he was uncooperative. The man admitted to officials that he smoked meth.
Officers tried to get the man into a patrol vehicle but he began fighting and lost consciousness.
Fire and EMS were still at the scene and gave the man CPR but he died at the scene.
The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and has taken over the investigation into the man’s death.
