FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A 17-year-old boy was killed in a shooting Saturday night at an apartment complex near Ninth Street and Bulldog Lane.
Exclusive doorbell camera video shows masked suspects approaching a door at the apartment complex before turning around. In the video, one person can be heard saying, “It’s not this one.”
Moments later, multiple gunshots rang out a few doors down.
Neighbors told Action News they saw a group of about three to four masked suspects approach multiple doors before the shooting. The suspects were then seen fleeing on foot.
Steve, a neighbor, said he was saddened to learn the victim was a teenager.
“It’s really disheartening to hear that someone was 17. Their life is just beginning,” Steve said.
The shooting occurred just steps away from Valley Children’s Stadium while Fresno State’s football home opener was still underway. Neighbors said police arrived within seconds.
Residents say the apartment complex has numerous surveillance cameras and security measures, but some remain concerned about safety in the area.
“It’s concerning for me because my niece is living here and she has four little girls,” Steve said.
The shooting comes months after two teens were shot and killed near San Jose and Fourth Street, several blocks away. Police said the victims, ages 15 and 14, were part of a group of four teens with gang ties who were targeted. A 17-year-old in that group was not injured. Authorities arrested 25-year-old Lelan Lee in connection with that case.
Steve said neighbors have observed an increase in crime in recent months.
“Actually, been going downhill considerably, which is a concern when we have games and things like that,” he said.
“It seems like there are so many gang-affiliated shootings and stuff going on now; it’s just really, really sad,” Steve said.
