(KMJ) – A new controversy is unfolding in Fresno’s District 1 City Council race as Miguel Arias is calling for an independent investigation into how information surrounding the arrest of council candidate Naindeep Singh was released to the public just days before the election.
Singh was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a drug before later being cleared when toxicology results came back negative, prompting an apology from Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto.
At a news conference, Arias said city leaders and the public deserve answers regarding the handling of the case and questioned whether proper procedures were followed when details of the arrest were disclosed.
Arias also raised concerns about the role of the Fresno City Attorney’s Office and whether any information was improperly shared during a closely contested election.
The incident has fueled debate over transparency, public accountability, and the potential impact of the arrest on the District 1 race. As questions continue, Arias says an independent review is needed to restore public trust and determine exactly what occurred.
