VISALIA, CA (KMJ) Rep. Jim Costa says a suspicious letter with a powdery substance was recently delivered to his Visalia district office.
The longtime Fresno Congressman issued a statement Tuesday afternoon: “While the nature of this letter is still under forensic analysis, let me be clear: any attempts to instill fear and intimidation will not deter my dedicated staff and me from working for the people of our Valley. No matter the circumstance, we remain committed to serving California’s 21st Congressional District. We will continue to work with law enforcement as the investigation continues.”
No members of his staff were harmed. Neither the culprit nor the substance have been identified.
Costa thanked the US Postal Inspection Service, local law enforcement and the US Capitol Police for investigating.
Listen to the report by KMJ’s Liz Kern.
