FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Drivers in Fresno are looking for ways to save at the pump as gas prices continue to climb.
Residents are currently paying an average of $6.09 a gallon, an increase of more than 21 cents in the past week.
The higher prices are prompting some drivers to turn to downloadable apps that track gas prices and help users find the lowest prices nearby.
AAA Northern California spokesperson Doug Johnson said changing driving habits can also help drivers improve fuel economy and save money.
“Another thing you could do is drive the speed limit. Most cars, the fuel economy peaks around 55 miles per hour, and it starts to drop off as you drive faster than that. So, driving the speed limit, not only can it be safer, it could also help you save up to 15 percent on your fuel economy,” Johnson said.
Experts also recommend making sure drivers are putting the proper fuel in their vehicles, as some vehicles require premium gasoline.
AAA also recommends comparing cash prices with the cost of paying by credit or debit card when filling up.
