California’s High-Speed Rail Authority is under fire – again – following a new investigation by the agency’s Inspector General.
The report found the authority paid nearly $600,000 in unallowable travel expenses over a two-year period for trips to locations investigators described as questionable and unrelated to state business. Those tax payer funded expenses included visits to gyms, a nightclub, an escape room, a tiki bar, and a cigar lounge.
KMJ hosts had plenty to say about it. Take a listen:
The Inspector General says consulting firm KPMG billed the authority for trips to the nightclub, tiki bar, and cigar lounge.
In a written statement, a spokesperson for the High-Speed Rail Authority says the agency takes the findings seriously and will work with the inspector general’s office to address the problems and improve oversight.
