The VA Central California Health Care System has reached a milestone few hospitals achieve, earning a coveted five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
During a recent conversation on the Philip Teresi Show, Executive Director Froy Garza discussed what the recognition means for veterans across the Central Valley and why many may be missing out on benefits they have already earned.

The Fresno VA improved from a four-star rating in 2024 to a five-star rating in 2026 after focusing on clinical quality, patient safety, and the overall veteran experience. Garza noted that no other hospital system in the Central Valley currently holds the same designation, making the achievement a significant source of pride for the organization and its employees.
For Garza, the mission is personal. His grandfather, a World War II veteran, relied on VA health care after being blinded during service, while his Vietnam veteran father only recently enrolled in the system. Garza said his father’s experience highlights how much the VA has evolved, emphasizing coordinated care, easier access to services, and dedicated teams that help guide veterans through their health care journey.

The next virtual veterans town hall will be on September 17 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event is aimed at veterans who may not realize they qualify for VA health care or who have questions about enrollment and benefits.
