FRESNO, CA — Fresno Chaffee Zoo’s African lion cubs officially have names!
The female cub has been named “Jubilee” meaning a special celebration or anniversary.
The male cub has been named “Indy” which is short for independence.
These names honor the cubs’ July 4th birthday.
The seven-week old cubs have been resting and bonding with mom “Zamaya” behind-the-scenes.
This is Zamaya’s second litter, and guests can see the cubs’
siblings, Asali and Taraj, at the Zoo on their habitat in African Adventure.
In their natural habitat, the African lion population is considered “vulnerable” according to the IUCN Red List.
As members of AZA’s Species Survival Plan as well as AZA’s
Saving Animals From Extinction (SAFE) program, Fresno Chaffee Zoo is proud to participate in the conservation efforts for this species.
