(KMJ) New attention is being focused on the Scott Peterson case, more than two decades after he was convicted of killing his pregnant wife, Laci, and their unborn son, Conner.
A new A&E documentary, Scott Peterson: The New Evidence, highlights claims from former defense attorney Mark Geragos and others who say newly examined evidence could support Peterson’s innocence. The program airs Thursday at 6PM PT.
Peterson was convicted in 2004 for the Christmas Eve 2002 murders of Laci Peterson and their unborn son in Modesto. His death sentence was overturned in 2020, and he’s now serving life without parole.
The documentary points to several disputed issues, including a burglary across the street from the Peterson home around the time Laci disappeared. Geragos says investigators never fully explored whether the crime could be connected.

The defense also cites reports involving a stolen, bloodied van linked to that burglary and argues prosecutors continued turning over evidence during the trial. Prosecutors have long maintained Peterson murdered his family to escape marriage and impending fatherhood. The convictions remain in place.
Prosecutors maintained the first-time dad was motivated to murder his family to evade impending fatherhood, escape his marriage and run off with his massage therapist mistress, Amber Frey.
“It was very hard for people to get over the image in the media of Scott with Amber,” Geragos said.
Laci’s mother, Sharon Rocha, says she’s tired of hearing new evidence could clear her former son-in-law.
“It is never-ending, and it’s like ripping the scab off a wound every time,” she told People Magazine. “All they’re looking for right now is to throw everything against the wall and hope that something sticks. Bottom line: He is guilty, and that’s it. Maybe I shouldn’t sound so harsh, but I’m tired. I’m very, very, very tired.”
