FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – A Fresno County supervisor wants to declare June “Traditional Nuclear Family Month,” drawing sharp criticism from LGBTQ advocates.
Supervisor Garry Bredefeld says the measure defining a nuclear family as one husband, one wife, and their children, recognizes traditional values and the role of parents in child development. He discussed the proposal with KMJ’s Broeske & Musson:

The resolution criticizes what it calls anti-family groups and certain lifestyles.
LGBTQ Fresno calls the proposal “mean-spirited” and an attempt to marginalize single-parent and same-sex families
The organization warns it sends a harmful message to the community.
A public meeting will be held on June 13 at the Hall of Records.
Opponents are urging residents to attend the hearing and speak out before the proposal is scheduled for a vote.
The proposal is expected to be voted by the Board of Supervisors on June 16.
Listen to the report by KMJ’s Liz Kern.
