FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A Corcoran mother seeking justice after her 17-year-old son was allegedly murdered by another teen took her fight to Sacramento.
Julia Sanchez stood beside Tulare Republican Assemblywoman Alexandra Macedo in the State Capitol, urging other lawmakers to support “Lorenso’s Law.”
It would lower the age requirement and allow minors to be transferred to adult court for serious, violent offenses.
However, the Committee failed to pass AB 2040 by one vote.
Following the vote, Assemblywoman Macedo requested reconsideration of the measure and a second vote could be taken next week to either pass the legislation or kill the bill for this legislative session.
Julia Sanchez says her son, Lorenso, a Corcoran High School senior, was fatally stabbed in the back of the neck outside the Hanford Mall last April.
Right now, with Proposition 57 in effect, Sanchez’s accused killer, a 15-year-old boy, could be released from custody by the time he is 25, if not sooner.
