FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A 41-year-old woman and her 9-year-old son are dead following a crash that sent their car into a canal.
Police were called out to a crash on McKinley Avenue and Fresno Street just before 2 am Monday.
Officers say the woman was driving a Dodge when she was hit by the driver of a Honda Pilot who ran a red light.
The Fresno Fire Department was able to rescue the woman. She was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where she died.
Shortly after, authorities learned that her son may have been in the car as well.
His body was found hours later, about two miles away from where the crash happened.
Police are still searching for the driver of the Honda Pilot, who they believe was under the influence.
Anyone with more information is asked to contact the Fresno Police Department.
