FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Fresno police are investigating a shooting at the Family HealthCare Network off Clinton and West avenues in Central Fresno.
Police say they received multiple calls about a shooting just after 8:20 a.m. on Thursday.
When officers arrived, they found the suspect, identified as a man in his late 60s, still at the clinic.
He was detained by officers.
Police confirm the suspect, now identified as 69-year-old Bounlab Thammavong, was a patient at the clinic for an appointment.
He was taken to the back of the clinic, where he allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the employee.
“They located the victim in the back part of the location [lying] on the ground, suffering from multiple gunshots,” Lt. Bowlan said.
The victim underwent emergency surgery and remains in critical condition.
She worked at the clinic, but the police are only describing her as in her 30s.
“Looks like this was some type of personal interaction between the patient and the employee that was targeted,” Lt. Bowlan said.
At this point, a motive for the shooting has not been released.
