(KMJ) – Ahead of National Spay/Neuter Awareness Month, The Cat House on the Kings aims to raise $50,000 to provide 1000 low-cost cat spays/neuters ahead of the Kitten Season flood.
Many kittens can’t find shelter or support services during the Spring and Summer each year, this fundraiser is aimed at the solution to pet overpopulation.
The Cat House on the Kings has a generous donor who will match funds up to $15,000.

Each year their goal is to provide low cost spay/neuter for thousands of cats and many dogs in need.
Last year their number of spays/neuters provided dropped by 2000 due to lower grant and donor funding.
Increasing spay/neuter each year addresses the root cause of overpopulation. This will reduce unplanned litters, reducing shelter overcrowding and transforming the lives of people and pets—one spay/neuter at a time!
“Our community is in crisis,” says The Cat House on the Kings. Pet populations have been exploding in recent years due to high costs and lack of access to spay/neuter. As they work with shelters and rescues through out the west, there are problems unique to each area, but the one thing that is consistent is that they are all overcrowded.

Many shelters don’t have a staff veterinarian and have to hold pets for weeks until they can get them spayed or neutered.
With pets moving more slowly out of shelters and rescues, adoptable pets may be euthanized due to lack of space, so more organizations ask CHOTK to take cats.
Many pet owners also struggle to afford the skyrocketing cost of spay/neuter services—the Cat House on the Kings has heard about fees for spay/neuter in many areas being unreasonable.
The Cat House on the Kings says it needs to raise $50,000 just to meet the need on their spay/neuter waiting list since many grants have disappeared.
