FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KMJ) — Family and friends are remembering Mattix Salmon.
The up-and-coming race car driver from Kingsburg was killed after he was side-swiped by a big rig Monday night at Manning Ave. and Riverside Ave. in Fresno County.
The CHP says the semi-truck driver, Marlon Tavarez of San Joaquin, was driving east on Manning Ave when he veered into the westbound lane.
Salmon, 19, was traveling west in a Chevrolet Silverado when he was struck by the semi, causing his SUV to go off the roadway and flip over multiple times, landing on its roof.
He died from his injuries at the scene. Tavarez was uninjured and remained on the scene, cooperating with the investigation.
Officials say drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the crash.
“Fastfourmedia” posted on Instagram: “Mattix, a remarkable individual, passed away in 2025, leaving behind a legacy of speed and innovation”.
Everything Dirt Racing posted on Facebook: “Devastating news in dirt racing: We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Salmon family during this incredibly difficult time. He was a very promising young talent and my prayers are with his family, friends, and all who loved him. May Mattix rest in peace”.
