KINGS COUNTY, Calif. (KMJ/KFSN) — A resident in Kings County has died due to the West Nile Virus.
This is the first human death from the virus in the county this year.
In total, health officials say there have been five West Nile virus cases in the county.
The announcement comes weeks after Fresno County reported its first death from the virus.
Back in July, Kings County health officials had confirmed its first case of West Nile.
The illness is contracted through the bite of an infected mosquito.
In most cases, the patient suffers only mild symptoms, such as headache, fatigue or nausea.
