FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KMJ/KFSN) — More progress was made in the effort to contain the Garnet Fire in Fresno County, with a barrier line now cut around 87 percent of the blaze.
After igniting at the end of August from a lightning strike, the blaze has burned nearly 60,000 acres in the Sierra National Forest.
On Tuesday, the Fresno County Sheriff’s office announced that eight evacuation warnings had been lifted in areas above Pine Flat Lake, where the Garnet Fire has been burning for nearly one month.
Three zones under evacuation orders were also reduced to warnings in the western, eastern and southern edges of the fire.
Wednesday night, the Shaver Lake Fire Department will host a community meeting to explain the process of cleaning up from the Garnet Fire.
The meeting will be held at the Shaver Lake Community Center.
It’s located at 41344 Tollhouse Road and begins at 6 p.m.
