MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) — A 17-year-old girl, a 15-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl have died after their family’s van crashed into a big rig truck in Madera County.
The California Highway Patrol says the crash happened just after 6 p.m. Saturday on Avenue 7 and Road 24.
Officers say the mother of the children, who was driving the minivan, did not see a stop sign and collided with a big rig truck in the intersection.
Two other passengers in the minivan were taken to the hospital with major injuries. The big rig driver was also taken to the hospital.
The crash left the family’s minivan split in half.
Investigators say the crash also caused a diesel spill in a nearby canal.
Crews are working to clean up the mess.
Authorities say the driver of the van could face criminal charges as this investigation continues.
