REEDLEY, Calif. (KMJ/KFSN) — A groundbreaking ceremony was held in Reedley on Thursday for a brand new library.
City and county leaders gathered to mark the start of the more than $14 million project.
The new library will be located on 11th and H streets, between Martens Chevrolet and the Reedley Rail Trail.
The land was purchased after a member of the “Friends of the Reedley Library” group passed away, leaving $180,000 to the project.
The new building will feature designated spaces for kids, teens and adults.
There will also be a community room with a kitchenette.
The effort to bring a new library to the city began back in 1994.
“So many different elements and people that had to come together to get this done, but it’s really a congratulations to the community,” says Reedley Mayor Matthew Tuttle.
Once complete, the new Reedley Library will be between 13,000 and 14,000 square feet.
Thursday’s groundbreaking comes just after the city of Clovis broke ground on its new library.
