SACRAMENTO, CA (KMJ) Katie Porter appears to be the big winner after Kamala Harris bowed out of a possible run for California Governor.
Porter, a former democratic member of Congress, has significantly widened her lead over her democrat competitors in the race to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom, according to a new poll released Thursday by Citrin and Politico.
San Bernadino County Sheriff Chad Bianco has opened a five point lead over fellow republican Steve Hilton, according to the poll.
“Californians are looking for a new type of leader,” said Bianco for Governor campaign manager Erica Melendrez. “Sheriff Bianco leads with integrity, and the voters trust him to tell them the truth about the state of our state. The Sheriff, with a 30-year-career in local law enforcement, is the only Republican who can win a statewide contest in California.”
Porter’s “gains from Harris are probably a combination of just being better known and having a clear ideological stamp,” said Jack Citrin, a political science professor at UC Berkeley and partner on the poll with Politico. “She has a particular progressive stamp — more than the other two guys — and I think that’s part of her appeal.”
