FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — It was move-in day at the Fresno State student dorms on Saturday.
“It’s definitely a nervous rush, you know, moving into a dorm for the first time,” Lillyanna Beltran said.
Fresno State Freshman and Bay Area native, Lillyanna Beltran, is excited to be part of the Bulldog family.
“The community is so nice already, checking in was so amazing. So, I’m excited to see how it goes,” she said.
As she gears up for the first day of the fall semester, there is one thing that’s made her anxious about the move to the Central Valley.1066
“I think I overpacked, but that’s okay, the more the merrier. I think that’s what I’m most nervous about, the overpacking,” Beltran said.
The student staff and school officials helped welcome 12-hundred students to the dorms.
They say it’s a day filled with a lot of emotions.
“We’ve seen hugs, we’ve seen tears, we’ve seen cheering that they’re leaving they’re child, right. It’s been all over the place and sometimes parents have emotions all throughout the day,” Fresno State housing director Erin Boele said.
One of those parents is Arizona resident Janet Grimsley.
She says her feelings are mixed, seeing her daughter starting a new journey at Fresno State.
“Getting ready to see her off and watch her do her thing. As a mom it’s, ‘is she ready, can she really do this?’ ‘Am I ready to see her do this?’,” Grimsley said.
Fresno State is making every effort to create a welcoming environment for students.
A dance event is being held for new students Saturday night, providing them with a chance to settle in and possibly meet others who are going through the same experience.
