TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) — The Tulare Police Department is warning of a scam targeting students on social media.
The agency has received reports of children being contacted through Instagram accounts that appear to be from other students at their schools.
The scammer then asks the victim permission to paint a picture of them for an art project before asking for payment.
Police say the children are providing financial information because they believe it’s a fellow student.
Authorities urge you not to provide personal or financial information to anyone you cannot verify in person.
