Loan Approved To Help Reopen Madera Community Hospital

MADERA, Calif. (KMJ/KFSN) — The state of California has approved Madera Community Hospital for a $57 million no-interest loan to help reopen the facility that has been closed for over a year.

The funding comes through the Distressed Hospital Loan Program, which helps hospitals with financial issues stay afloat.

A Change of Management Application filed by American Advanced Management was also approved for the hospital.

Back in February, a federal court judge approved AAM to move forward with their bid to manage, reopen and purchase the shuttered hospital.

Madera Community Hospital closed its doors in December 2022 following financial issues, which forced residents to travel elsewhere for medical care.

In July of 2023, Adventist Health had agreed to manage the hospital in a non-binding letter of intent. The deal fell through in November.

The two approvals announced Monday now clear the way for the reopening process to move forward.

State Senator Anna Caballero and Assemblymember Esmeralda Soria have both been involved in working to reopen the hospital, and they both applauded the latest approvals in a press release.

Assm. Soria said, “Today’s news moves us closer to restoring essential healthcare services to our community.”

More information is expected to be provided soon on an official timeline for reopening the facility.
