Fresno’s Mayor, District Attorney Join KMJ Discussing Budget, Prop 47, Valley Children’s Hospital

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – The City of Fresno is looking at a budget deficit – possibly $37 million dollars by 2025.

Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer released his 5-year forecast to the city council on Thursday.

On Friday, he along with District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp came on KMJ to speak with host Ray Appleton.

They discusses topics including the budget, and Prop 47.

The City of Fresno’s deficit would reach $180 million over the next five years if the city does not balance the budget.

The goal is to not cut city services or positions, and generate revenue.

Fresno County’s District Attorney also responded after her character was questioned by Council Member Gary Bredefeld during a press conference on Tuesday about executive compensation at Valley Children’s Hospital.

She corrected Council Member Gary Bredefeld’s claim that she had a vote in salaries, and defended the compensation that board members paid Todd Suntrapak, the CEO, saying he was worth the money.

Smittcamp called Bredefeld’s allegation “shameful.”

Bredefeld and Smittcamp have clashed previously during his campaign running for a seat as Fresno County Supervisor.
