Bakersfield Man Guilty of Murdering Wife’s Boyfriend

Bakersfield, CA (KMJ) Dashawn Hunter was found guilty of second degree murder Wednesday in Kern County Superior Court.

Prosecutors say in February of 2021 Hunter shot and killed Reginald McCoy Jr. in front of his home. McCoy had been shot 7 times and died at the scene.

Prior to the murder, Hunter had become aware of his wife’s relationship with the victim. Investigators testified that Hunter had been at McCoy’s house at the time of the murder and his DNA was also found near the scene of the crime.

Kern County DA Cynthia Zimmer commented after the verdict “Let this be a reminder that violence is never the answer.”

Hunter will be sentenced April 24 and faces 25 years to life.
