FRESNO, CA – City Manager Georgeanne White is happy to announce that Candace Krider, DVM, has joined the Fresno Animal Center team as a full-time Veterinarian to serve the animal population at the Center.

In her role, Dr. Krider will be part of collective and strategic planning in staffing the new state-of-the-art clinic and developing the program, while also embodying the goals, innovation, and animal care compassion envisioned by the Mayor, City Manager, and City Council.

“The Fresno Animal Center aims to serve a significant need in Fresno, and a top-line veterinarian sets the tone for the care and compassion that will be provided to the animals while they’re in our facility,” said City Manager White. “I’m excited that Candace has chosen to bring her skillset, leadership, and experience to the Center, and I know both the animals and citizens we serve will benefit.”

“Our goal is to reunite pets with their owners and provide the best possible care to animals while they’re at the Center,” said Mayor Jerry Dyer. “I’m confident in Candace’s ability to provide the high level of care that these animals deserve and further our mission.”

Dr. Krider will be responsible for the full range of professional veterinary medical services in the care and treatment of animals at the Center and will be working with our partners at the UC Davis Koret Shelter Program and the San Francisco SPCA to develop and implement procedures and policies relating to the operation and maintenance of the facility.

“I’m thrilled to join Fresno as the new veterinarian. Ensuring the health and well-being of animals in our community is crucial and I am eager to contribute my skills to make a positive impact on their lives,” Dr. Krider said. “Together, we can enhance the overall welfare of these animals and strengthen the bond between pets and their families.”

Before joining the City, Dr. Krider worked in various roles including as a relief veterinarian, a veterinary surgeon with the California SPCA, and an emergency veterinarian.

Dr. Krider earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. She also owns a Master of Science in Biology degree from the University of Saint Joseph.

Her first day with the City was January 2, 2024.
