Listen: Tulare Co. D.A. Details Effort to “Fix” Prop 47

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) Tulare County District Attorney Tim Ward joined KMJ’s Afternoon Drive on Thursday to discuss the effort to “fix” Prop 47.

The initiative is called “The Homelessness, Drug Addiction, and Theft Reduction Act” and they are currently gathering signatures to put it on the November ballot.

It is supported by many law enforcement agencies across the state including Fresno County DA Lisa Smittcamp and Madera County DA Sally Moreno.

The California District Attorneys Association said the measure will address some of the problems they say are associated with Prop 47.

That controversial proposition, passed by California voters a few years ago under the dubious title “Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act”, allows non-violent property crimes turn from felonies into misdemeanors, as long as the value of goods stolen does not exceed $950.
