HANFORD, CA (KMJ) – Hanford city officials name Stephanie Huddleston as the new Hanford Police Chief.

She is the first woman to fill the position.

City Manager Mario Cifuentez made the announcement on Friday.

In a statement, he said “I believe Captain Huddleston is the right person to move the department forward in our growing community.

Huddleston is a captain with the City of Hanford Police Department, serving there since 2006

Her character and leadership are beyond reproach, and I look forward to seeing what she will accomplish in the years ahead.”

Huddleston is taking over for interim police chief Jack Amoroso, named in October until a permanent replacement was found.

She earned two degrees in criminology at Fresno State.

She plans to begin a doctorate program in criminal justice leadership.

Huddleston will be sworn in by city officials on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

Her appointment is effective on Monday, January 22.
