FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – A Valley lawmaker is now requesting a formal audit of the California Department of Justice following last month’s leak of information of a large number of state firearm owners.

Republican Assembly Member Jim Patterson says “This is more than a breach of trust in the DOJ, it threatens the very safety of CCW holders.”

Speaking to KMJ’s Ray Appleton on Tuesday, Patterson said he is asking the state DOJ for an explanation over how personal information of concealed carry weapon applicants were posted online.

Estimates are 200,000 people were affected but Patterson believes it’s more like 600,000.

If the DOJ denies the audit Patterson says he has more options.
