FRESNO, CA (KMJ) -Fresno State’s President agrees with a Task force recommendation that The Henry Madden Library be renamed over the namesake’s racism.

Last November, Fresno State created the committee to look into changing the name of the Madden Library after it was discovered that Madden held racist views and sympathized with Nazi’s.

When 12 Fresno State undergraduates enrolled in History 100W, they expected a normal introduction to historical research. That was until their professor, Ethan J. Kytle, was asked to restructure the class after news broke out that accused Henry Madden of  antisemitic views. Now, these 12 students are receiving college and academic credit for their part in potentially changing the name of the Henry Madden Library.  When the library task force released its report reviewing the name change of the library, Kytle’s class was credited for the work it contributed into the research process. ”

In April, a 71-page preliminary report was released after 50 boxes of Madden’s writings in English and other languages revealed his anti-semitic views and racist remarks.

Madden’s archives consisted of more than 100,000 documents within 53 large boxes of material that had previously been untouched.”

On May 2, the University’s Academic Senate passed a resolution that Madden’s name should be removed.

On Wednesday, May 18, 2022, a 74 page report was released by the Task Force, reaffirming their opinion.

Now, it’s up to Fresno State President Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval, who on Wednesday said that when the CSU Board of Trustees meets on July 12, 2022 he will recommend that they vote to remove Madden’s name.
