Students Released from School After Large Fight at El Capitan High School in Merced

MERCED, CA (KMJ/FOX26) – An investigation is underway after a large fight broke out Thursday afternoon at El Capitan High School in Merced.

The Merced Police Department says there were no weapons involved and no major injuries were reported after fights broke out.

Merced Police responded to the campus after calls around 11:45 am.

El Capitan High School was placed on lockdown around noon while a school resource officer and staff tried to separate fighting students.

One student was reportedly cut on the face, another had an asthma attack.

Police said two fights took place with more than 100 students involved.

The fight ended by about 1:30 and Merced Police had not made any arrests.

Officials said students were released from campus for the day.
