FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KMJ/FOX26) — A man was arrested Thursday afternoon following a high-speed chase that started just east of Sanger.

The California Highway Patrol says an officer tried to pull over a man for a seatbelt violation, but he instead took off, reaching over 100 miles per hour.

During the chase, officers say the driver blew through several stop signs, ran multiple red lights, and nearly collided with cars as he drove on the wrong side of the street. The suspect then takes to Highway 180 and continues the chase with law enforcement.

According to investigators, officers placed spike strips on the road and popped at least one tire before the driver exited Highway 180 at Chestnut. He then ditches his SUV and takes off on foot but was later captured.

Officers say they found drugs inside the suspect’s SUV as well as burglary tools.

The chase, CHP says, remains under investigation.
