TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KMJ) – Porterville man, 42-year-old Carlos Santos Moreno was sentenced to life in prison for luring and shooting a teenager in 2018.

It started after two teenagers driving a truck taunted another group of teens near the Tule River on June 30th 2018.

The teenage victim followed the truck to get the license plate number.

The driver of the other truck called his mother’s boyfriend, Carlos Moreno, who told him to lead the teenage driver to his house.

When they arrived, Moreno came outside firing at the victim who was able to get away but was hit by gunfire.

The DA’s Office says he’s a known gang member and has prior convictions.

Moreno was found guilty in October of premeditated attempted murder with the special allegation of using a firearm causing great bodily injury, shooting at an occupied vehicle, assault with a firearm, and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Moreno has prior convictions for robbery for the benefit of a criminal street gang, felony domestic violence, and drug sales.

Moreno will be eligible for parole in 2044 due to California’s elder parole provision.
