SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KMJ/FOX26) — California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed into legislation Monday a new bill that aims to provide more support for those within the state’s foster care system.
According to Assemblyman Jim Patterson, who penned the legislation, AB 317 adds more support when dealing with abuse claims and protects watchdogs seeking accountability when internal problems are spotted from within the system itself.
“When children in our foster system are hurting and need someone to stand up for them,” said Patterson, “they need a watchdog who is truly independent and can investigate abuse, neglect and other serious systemic issues with the same oversight powers given to other similar offices in our state.”
