(KMJ) – The search is now underway for those who defaced a memorial in Reedley dedicated to first responders.

That city’s Police Department issued the follow news released on Tuesday

Friday, May 21, 2021, the Reedley Police Department responded to a vandalism report at the Kings Canyon Unified School District (KCUSD) Office at 1801 10th Street in Reedley. The District met with Officers and pointed out a large area of spray-painted graffiti on an 80-foot section of wall which contained a recently installed mural. The graffiti read “NO 2 MASKS” in two different locations on the mural, covering a large portion of the mural images.

On Thursday, April 22, 2021, the mural was unveiled by KCUSD honoring all front-line workers and their continued efforts over the past year during the pandemic. The mural included “larger than life” images of first responders and front-line workers and was approximately 8’ tall and over 92’ in length. Due to the damage by the spray-painted graffiti, the mural, unfortunately, was removed from the wall by KCUSD. The estimated cost of damages stands at $10,000.

The Reedley Police Department is actively working on this case, and we believe someone may know the perpetrator(s) of this vandalism, and we are asking for help from the public for any information. The Police Department has partnered with Valley Crime Stoppers, and a reward has been established in the amount of $1,500. The cash reward, in this case, is a combination of funds donated by Kings Canyon Unified School District, the Reedley Police Officer’s Association, and Valley Crime Stoppers.

To qualify for this cash reward, you must send your anonymous tip through to Valley Crime Stoppers by calling 498-STOP or go to www.valleycrimestoppers.org . If your anonymous tip leads to an arrest, you may qualify for a cash reward.
