(KMJ) – The Fresno County District Attorney has officially filed murder charges against a known gang member who reportedly killed a Fresno City College student after he struck her vehicle in Downtown Fresno while being chased by Valley law enforcement.
Here is the statement released Tuesday by D.A. Lisa Smittcamp:
Marc Cain Rodriguez, 31, was charged with murder in connection to the death of Hannah Pimentel, 19, who he is alleged to have killed with a motor vehicle while fleeing from police on May 12, 2021.
The complaint filed in the Fresno County Superior Court alleges that Rodriguez committed the following crimes:
1. MURDER
2. EVADING AN OFFICER CAUSING DEATH
3. POSSESSION OF A FIREARM BY A FELON
Additionally, the complaint alleges Rodriguez has suffered a prior “strike” conviction under California’s Three Strikes law. If convicted, Rodriguez faces a maximum sentence of life in state prison. At the time of the offense, Rodriguez had active warrants for failing to appear in court on weapons possession charges and was in violation of his release conditions following a prison commitment for a prior evading an officer charge in 2018.
Rodriguez was arrested in Phoenix, AZ, and is facing extradition for the murder filed today as well as his other charges. The Fresno County District Attorney’s office is working with Arizona authorities to return him to Fresno County as quickly as possible, where he will be arraigned upon his return to Fresno. In addition to Rodriguez, separate charges are pending against at least three additional individuals for conspiracy to
obstruct justice for the benefit of a criminal street gang in connection with this case.
