Senator Borgeas, Fresno County Leaders Write Letter Urging Gov. Newsom For Emergency Drought Declaration

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Fresno County has joined a coalition of Central Valley locations requesting a state-wide emergency drought declaration.

Senator Andreas Borgeas is writing the letter, as he and other valley leaders are looking for Gov. Gavin Newsom to allow water to be rerouted to the Valley for agricultural use.

Sen. Borgeas speaking Tuesday with KMJ’s Broeske and Musson said it’s a political battle at play, with environmental lobbying trying to erase agricultural needs in the region, possibly in lieu of indoor hydroponic farming.

Sen. Borgeas said that Tom Vilsak, the AG Secretary with the Biden Administation is on the same side, and also wrote to Gov. Newsom in March, urging him to allow water to come to the Valley.
